PJ Washington

Position: PF From: Kentucky Class/YOB: Sophomore
Height: 6’8 Weight: 223 Wingspan: 7’3

Strengths:

  • NBA-ready body. Put in the work in the offseason to maximize his physique. Has good strength that he utilizes in all areas of the game. Uses broad shoulders to power through defenders and carve out space for rebounds
  • Understands how to set up teammates. Outlet passes ignite the break. Decent enough handle to get to his spots. He keeps his head up and makes quick decisions against double teams
  • Vastly improved outside shooter. Addressed a glaring weakness from last season. Shooting well over 40 percent from three and continuing to hit jumpers off of pick-and-pop actions
  • Slides his feet when guarding in space. Not an overwhelming athlete, but he can hold his own defending on the perimeter
  • One of the top offensive rebounders at his position. Desire to hunt put backs serves him well.
  • Effective post scorer. A huge wingspan allows him to play bigger than his listed height. Bumps defenders and can make hooks over either shoulder versus taller players

Weaknesses:

  • Not a feared shot-blocker. Despite his length, he doesn’t show the timing to be a factor defending the rim
  • Solid in a lot of areas, but not special at anything
  • Inconsistent free-throw shooter. Seeks out too much contact to not be able to hit more free throws
  • How much better can he get? Already physically developed and doesn’t have one skill that looks to be destined for significant growth
