Obi Toppin

Position:  PF                From:  Dayton                       Class/YOB: Sophomore

Height: 6’9                        Weight: 220                       Wingspan:

  • Efficient three-level scorer. Has great touch on dump-offs, mid-range looks, and spot-up threes
  • Terrific vertical threat at the rim. Dayton made a living throwing the ball up to Toppin on post seals. He skies on lob passes and is a highlight waiting to happen in transition
  • Sound footwork in the post. Toppin has the athleticism to shoot over defenders, but he doesn’t rely on it. Always seems under control in the post
  • Excellent screen outlet. This might be his most prominent NBA skill. Forces switches against guards. He is just as lethal rolling as he is popping for a jumper. Rare combination of mobility, skill, and athleticism
  • Handles the ball very well for a big. Comfortable pushing in transition or taking his man off the bounce

  • Contests at the rim but isn’t a true rim protector. NBA bigs are not going to fear his presence in the paint
  • Should continue to add strength to bang with bigger players if he is put at the five
  • He tends to fall away when he faces bigger opponents. He can knock those shots down, but shouldn’t settle
  • In Dayton’s offense, he would occasionally float too often. Toppin has the tools to be a plus offensive rebounder if he stays active in the NBA
