Darius Garland

Position: PG From: Vanderbilt Class/YOB: Freshman
Height: 6’2 Weight: 175 Wingspan: N/A

  • High-IQ playmaker that is under control. He can put pressure on the defenses without being sped up. A student of the game that will continue to absorb knowledge
  • Special shooter. Stretches defenses and forces screens defenders to fight over with his shooting ability. Has a quick, compact release that he can pull off readily. Steps into threes when he has space
  • Very adept at operating in the pick-and-roll game. He is one of the best in this class at probing the lane to find the ideal shot off of a screen
  • Has the ball on a string. Plays with a pace and confidence to use his dribble to go wherever he wants. He has an NBA-ready handle and protects the ball against tight defense
  • Efficient scorer in the paint thanks to his runner. He is a lot more athletic than he initially looks. Has the quickness to penetrate the lane and maneuver around the basket

  • Struggles a little bit as a passer when he gets into the teeth of the defense. Not the biggest guard, so when he goes too deep, he can be forced into some turnovers
  • More of a scoring guard with playmaking upside. Definitely has the ability to pass, but is more comfortable searching for offense for himself first. As he develops, creating more for his teammates out of pick-and-rolls and offensive sets will be key
  • Physically slight guard. Has a frame that doesn’t look built for long seasons right now. Taking off the rest of the season at Vanderbilt after his injury was a good move to ensure teams he is 100% by the time workouts role around
  • Can fade in and out of defensive intensity. Doesn’t always fight through screens. Moves fine laterally. Much quicker with the ball than he is on the defensive end. Lack of size and superb athleticism can hurt him on defense
