NBA Draft Spotlight: Amir Hinton

Amir Hinton is looking to become a rare Division II player to be selected in the NBA Draft. His talent level is there, so it will be interesting to see how he works out with teams over the next month.

Position: SG From: Shaw Class/YOB: Junior
Height: 6’5 Weight: 190 Wingspan: N/A

Strengths:

  • Athletic, strong build. Jumps off the screen with his physical skills
  • Possesses a tireless scoring mentality that is aided by good footwork and confident shot-making ability
  • Will play with a chip on his back. He has a hunger about the way he plays
  • Size and physicality are going to allow him to be a strong finisher in the paint. May not be able to bully players like he did at Shaw, but he is a talented inside scorer

Weaknesses:

  • How will he play against elite-level talent on a nightly basis? He lit up DII, but will see far more size, length, and athleticism that he will need to adjust to quickly
  • Can knock down spot-ups, but is a ball-dominant two guard. Will need to develop his off-ball scoring game
  • He was able to rely on his athleticism defensively. Finding a way to impact the game as a defender will open up chances for him
  • Overall effort will need to be up as he transitions to summer league and hopefully the NBA. You can tell he is confident, so developing an understanding of how to pick his spots and stay driven will be key
