NBA Draft Spotlight: Kerwin Roach

Kerwin Roach battled through some struggles this season. His athleticism caught the eyes of decision-makers early in his career, but it never came together for the Texas guard. He is in position to win over some coaches in workouts

Position: PG From: Texas Class/YOB: Freshman
Height: 6’4 Weight: 180 Wingspan: N/A

Strengths:

  • Uber-athletic guard with elite explosive ability. Plays at a fast pace and can use his speed to get to the rim and finish above the rim
  • Good defensive prowess. Has the speed and size to guard both backcourt positions effectively. Played in a system where he was able to shine applying full court pressure
  • When he plays under control, his burst with the ball can make it difficult to keep in front. In the NIT, he was excellent getting downhill and finishing or making plays for his teammates

Weaknesses:

  • Shooting has been all over the place
  • Speed can be his worst enemy. Runs into turnovers when he gets out of control with the ball
  • Off-court issues in question. Was suspended multiple times for violations of team rules
  • Very thin and not overly long for his position
