NBA Draft Spotlight: Dean Wade

Injuries took away a lot of games from Kansas State star Dean Wade. Barring any future injuries, he could rise up draft boards following workouts.

Position: PF From: Kansas State Class/YOB: Senior
Height: 6’10 Weight: 225 Wingspan: N/A

Strengths:

  • Efficient perimeter shooter. Stretches the floor at the post spots where he can hit mid-range shots and threes with consistency
  • Passes the ball well. Can initiate the fastbreak with his outlet passes or drop off passes when he draws help in the paint
  • Plays with a lot of patience. Never looks in a hurry. Surveys situations before making a move and finishes a lot of shots against size and athleticism as a result
  • Has the mobility and ball-skills to pose as a mismatch for other bigs
  • Very experienced, seasoned player. Started over 120 games throughout four years

Weaknesses:

  • Spends a lot of time on the perimeter. Rebounding wasn’t especially impressive while at Kansas State. More of a wing in a four’s body
  • Injuries continued to aggravate and limit him throughout the last few years
  • Lacks bounce around the basket. Knows his limits, but interior scoring is not his biggest gift
  • Does a good job using his quickness in the post. I would like to see him improve his base so he is able to move bigger posts in back-to-the-basket situations
