NBA Draft Spotlight: Bennie Boatwright

Bennie Boatwright has overcome some injuries to get to a point where he is in the discussion to be selected in the 2019 NBA Draft. He has an intriguing skill set that is uncommon for his size.

Position: PF From: USC Class/YOB: Sophomore
Height: 6’10 Weight: 235 Wingspan: N/A

Strengths:

  • 40 percent three-point shooter capable of scoring off curls as well
  • Does a nice job slipping screens to find space to knock down jumpers. Has the quickness to get a lot of separation when screen defenders give him space
  • Ball-handling is good for a four-man. Won’t hesitate to attack the paint from the wing or high post
  • Pushes the break with the pass and makes touch passes on the inside

Weaknesses:

  • Doesn’t rebound well enough
  • Rim protection is not a threat. Guards can go at him just as they would a wing player
  • How will he impact the game when his shot isn’t falling? May be one of the best shooting bigs in this draft, but his offensive game is entirely reliant on that trait
  • Injuries have been an issue throughout his career
