NBA Draft Spotlight: Markis McDuffie

After battling injuries as a junior, Markis McDuffie had an all-conference season for Wichita State. He enters the draft with prototypical size and athleticism for a wing.

Position: SF From: Wichita State Class/YOB: Senior
Height: 6’8 Weight: 218 Wingspan: N/A

Strengths:

  • Long, active defender with the versatility to guard a couple positions and hold his own against bigger players
  • Solid transition player when running the wings where he can catch and finish above the rim
  • Elevates nicely on his jump shot. Has to work on maintaining balance, but his follow-through is workable
  • Attacks the basket in a straight line. Strength allows him to play both forward spots where his driving ability shines

Weaknesses:

  • Jump shot needs to become more consistent. Really upped his production from  deep
  • Doesn’t break defenders down off the dribble. More of a one move and go guy
  • Not much of a playmaker
  • Seems to be a little less explosive since his junior year injury. More strong though, which may help him flex between forward spots
