NBA Draft Spotlight: Miye Oni

It was a breakout season for Yale guard Miye Oni. Despite a tough exit in the NCAA Tournament, he opened up a lot of eyes in his junior year.

Position: SG/SF From: Yale Class/YOB: Junior
Height: 6’6 Weight: 210 Wingspan: N/A

Strengths:

  • NBA-ready build. Has good size, strength, and length for a wing
  • Smooth penetrator that plays with a good pace. Has ways to score from all three levels. Probes into the lane until he finds an opening
  • Shoots with a fluid release from three, on the catch and off the dribble. Should continue expanding his range
  • An unselfish scorer that played as a lead ball-handler for Yale
  • Potential to be a very good defender. Explosive athlete. Uses length well. I can see him becoming a solid 3-and-D player with plus playmaking skills on the right team

Weaknesses:

  • Isn’t always efficient with his dribbles. Will need to be more precise when making moves to avoid turnovers and over-dribbling
  • Though he is a good shot blocker, he takes away his aggression by getting in foul trouble
  • Struggled to score against top opponents this season
  • Has to stay within himself and not get sped up. That should come with experience. Still a fairly raw player, so keeping a level head will be key to his development
