In a somewhat down year for Kansas, freshman point guard Devon Dotson was a consistent contributor. He may be best served heading back to school for one more season.
Position: PG | From: Kansas | Class/YOB: Freshman |
Height: 6’2 | Weight: 185 | Wingspan: N/A |
Strengths:
- Quick changing direction and flat out fast with the ball in his hands. Plays quick but not in a hurry
- Makes plays for his teammates while playing at high speeds. Needs more work in a half-court setting, but the instincts are there
- Crafty finisher around the rim who can score around length despite his size
- Can be a pest defensively with his quickness. Beats players to the spot and stays solid
- A decent outside shooter when given time and space. Speed often forces defenders to play off, giving him ample opportunities to hit threes
Weaknesses:
- Taller and stronger than he looks but still on the low side strength-wise
- Will need to be more reliable from three and stretch his range out. Right now he doesn’t make a lot of NBA-range threes
- Has that rare ability to play fast and under control in transition. Now just needs to refine how to use that speed in pick-and-rolls and isolations
- Switching on defense will be an issue due to lack of sheer size
