NBA Draft Spotlight: Ayo Dosunmo

Tasked with being one of the top recruits in the history of Illinois basketball, Ayo Dosunmo put together a respectable first year in the Big Ten. Now it’s decision time, as he should be selected if he decides to turn pro. If he returns, he could establish himself as a lock to be a first-round pick next season.

Position: PG From: Illinois Class/YOB: Freshman
Height: 6’5 Weight: 185 Wingspan: N/A

  • Slick floor general that knows how to control the pace. He commands attention with his constant threat to score the ball or pass teammates open. Pick-and-roll proficiency is promising, as he uses screens and rescreens to get the slightest bit of a step on defenders. Makes enough outside shots to force defenders to fight over screens
  • Good penetrator that draws contact and uses his length to score with runners and close-range pull-ups
  • Great size and ranginess. Doesn’t have breakaway speed, so his length gives him an advantage in smaller matchups
  • Solid shooting mechanics and shot the ball fairly well from three and mid-range. Thrives late in games when his team needs a big shot
  • Length and instincts allow him to be a terror defensively. Always finds a way to get his hands on passes and puts pressure on ball-handlers without getting beat off the dribble

  • Thin for his size. Can lose his balance on drives when big defenders push him off
  • Has shot making ability from the outside, but he goes through some rough stretches and struggles from the foul line
  • Not as polished with balancing his scoring and distributing. Part of that is not being surrounded by great talent
  • Lacks quickness to beat defenders. Very reliant on craftiness. Not a great leaper or open-court athlete
